I’ve been testing Pocket Casts 4 developed by the Australian team of Shifty Jelly.
Pocket Casts 4 is a universal app sold at $3.99 and it’s a free upgrade for existing owners of Pocket Casts 3.

Pocket Casts lets you search for podcasts and subscribe to them, it is a one-stop app for pretty much every podcast need you will have. It also allows you to organise them, share and play.

The search facilities are its greatest strength. You can use the direct search method of inputting a term and having the app find some results, also look for the most popular or scour by genre. It works in an identical way to looking through Google Play for an app and this familiarity ensures that you instantly feel at home finding podcasts of interest.

You can select the Discover option. the coloured blocks showcase a pick of podcasts, from here, you can produce playlists. Podcasts can be downloaded and they can be organised too.

Being able to sync and back-up is good too. Your subscriptions, playlists and podcasts transfer to your other android devices, which is great if you upgrade in future or if you lose your device. And when you come to play back these podcasts, you can choose the speed too. Great for cycling through a podcast quickly, for instance.

I love this app. I keep it on my device even though I use Overcast for the most part now, but I will never regret this. Truth be told I am glad I have this to fall back on. It is better than Overcast and Castro, by a long shot. These updates have been good too. I gotta say this is app is a must have if you like podcasts.
